Patrol-car window broken, man charged

police brief

Date published: 11/14/2007

A Culpeper County man faces several charges after being accused of kicking out a police-car window Friday night.

The incident occurred about 10:15 p.m. in the 300 block of Kelly Street when Culpeper town police responded to a report of a disorderly man.

According to Lt. Chris Settle, the man "was acting very erratic and appeared to be under the influence of some type of intoxicant."

Officer Luther Snow attempted to arrest the suspect, but a fight ensued and backup officers were called, Settle said.

After the man was finally subdued and placed in the back seat of a patrol car, he kicked out the rear passenger-side window.

During a search, a bottle of suspected PCP and crack cocaine was allegedly found on the man, Settle said.

Jason O'Neill Washington, 32, of Gibson Mill Road, was charged with possession of narcotics with intent to distribute, possession of a schedule I or II controlled substance, resisting arrest, destruction of municipal property and being intoxicated in public.

He is being held without bond pending his first court appearance.
