Gene A. Rozell

Gene Allen Rozell, 77, of Woodford in Caroline County died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Mary Washington Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born Feb. 13, 1930, in Lincoln County, Tenn. After serving his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Basilone, he and his late brother, D.G. "Curly" Rozell, founded Rozell Brothers Trucking Co. They also operated Rozell Grocery and Rozell Oil Co. for many years in Guinea. He was well-respected as a knowledgeable mechanic and had a sharp eye for detail. He also was a founding member of Upper Caroline Volunteer Fire Department.

After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling in his motor home. He was a genuine and well-respected man who served his country and the community for many years and will be missed by many.

He is survivied by his two sons, Gary Rozell of Woodford and Roger Rozell of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Sandra Rozell of Woodford; a brother, Cecil Rozell of Heathsville; two sisters, Margie Serrett of Woodford and Virgie Thedora Howland of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Randolph M. Newsome officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Upper Caroline Volunteer Fire Department, 9344 Stonewall Jackson Road, Woodford, Va. 22580.
