Pollard may try for run in House

Albert Pollard Jr. has endorsed Democratic congressional candidate Phil Forgit, and campaigned with Forgit in the Northern Neck this week.
But if Forgit loses Tuesday's election, Pollard is thinking about a campaign of his own.
Forgit is running against Republican Del. Rob Wittman, and independent Lucky Narain, for the congressional 1st District seat. The special election Tuesday will fill the vacancy left by the October death of Jo Ann Davis.
If Wittman wins, he'll have to resign his House of Delegates seat--the same seat Pollard used to hold. Wittman won the seat after Pollard retired in 2005. Now Pollard says if it comes open, he's likely to run for it again.
"It's all based on Tuesday's outcome. I enjoy the public service and financially we're in a much better position than we were when I stepped down, and so I would almost certainly run," said Pollard, who last month lost a close race for state Senate to Republican Richard Stuart. "I've been really flattered, everybody from the local UPS man to the car mechanic to former Governor Linwood Holton has been urging me to stay in public service."
The House seat, the 99th, covers the Northern Neck. Pollard won those localities in the race against Stuart.
Republicans have a candidate of their own waiting to see the outcome of Tuesday's election: King George County resident Bob Barlow.
Barlow, a former county supervisor, already has campaign stickers and materials ready to go; attendees at a Wittman rally a few weeks ago were wearing the Barlow stickers.
If Wittman wins Tuesday, a special election would have to be held to fill his seat. But it's not likely it could be held before the General Assembly session begins; state law precludes the holding of an election in the 60 days prior to a primary, and both parties are having presidential primaries in February.
That would mean that if Wittman wins, the Northern Neck wouldn't have a delegate for at least part of the legislative session. Pollard said Lancaster County and some other counties in the 99th District have written to Gov. Tim Kaine, requesting that in such a scenario, special legislation be passed that would allow the district to bypass the 60-day law and hold an election anyway.
"The counties are starting to focus on it, because they don't want to go through a legislative session unrepresented," Pollard said.
All that would be moot if Wittman loses on Tuesday, however.

Pollard's race and hate baiting was disgusting and despicable.
Does this news mean he will be running as a Republican, like
last time?
Nobody should vote for this immigrant hater unless he can
tell us how many illegal immigrants there are in his district.
He can't. Against Stewart, he made a shameful attempt to
rally gullible whites to make the assumption that, if you are
brown skinned and speak Spanish, you gotta be illegal.
Our founding fathers were illegal immigrants, and there is
no good reason to elect an immigrant hater to anything.
