The U-18 FASA Impact went undefeated in six College Showcase games during recent weekends.
In the Virginia Champions League Showcase, they defeated the WAGS Division 1 champion Gunston Team America, 2-0, as well as the Richmond Kickers Elite.
On the weekend after Thanksgiving, the team traveled to Delaware to compete in the Kirkwood Showcase where they had victories over teams from New York and New Jersey.
For the six games, the Impact scored 11 goals and allowed only one. It was an outstanding team effort as every player contributed. More than 100 colleges were in attendance for the two events.
Allowing a single goal in six games required an incredible defensive effort. Vicki Fessler, Christine Kaila, Lyndsay Wilshaw, Margaret Beckwith, Lexie Macris and Stacy Herrera were extremely strong in the back, defending as well as starting and supporting the attack.
Outstanding keeper play by both Heather Haag and Shelby Ziegler recorded five shutouts in six games.
The midfield, which also contributed to the offensive and defensive effort, was led by Meredyth Frye, Kirsty Meyer, Joanna Debrouse, Becky Garrett, Heather Hudson and Casey Ridings. Striker Kara Blosser had multiple goals and assists over the two weekends. Also scoring for the Impact were Korri Iracane, Meredyth Frye, Joanna Debrouse and Casey Ridings.
The Impact had another great year competing in the Champions League and against the top premier teams in the region in Showcase tournaments. In their 15 wins this year, the Impact scored 53 goals and allowed only 18. They had a narrow, last-minute loss in State Cup play to the U-18 state champions McLean Freedom Elite, 2-1.
They will be competing in another Showcase tournament in North Carolina in January and additional events in the spring. Many of the Impact players are Olympic Development Program players and play Super Y and with the Lady Gunners in the W-League.
The Impact is composed of players from Riverbend, Courtland, Massaponax, Chancellor and Stafford high schools. Several have been contacted by colleges and will play at the next level.
