Newton A. Miner
Newton Arthur Miner, 84, of Lincoln, Ariz., died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, in Springdale, Ariz. He was a longtime resident of Stafford County.
He was born in Duncan, Okla., Feb. 23, 1923, to Enoch Newton and Freda Michelfelder Miner.
Newt served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of George Washington University with a degree in English literature.
He was employed as a chief appraiser with the federal government and later worked as an independent appraiser. He was a published poet.
Survivors include his wife, Anita Miner; seven sons, three by a previous marriage, Reid Miner and his wife, Mary, of Apex, N.C., Jay Miner and his wife, Mauri, of Seattle, Wash.; Jim Miner and his wife, Zoe, of California; Brian Miner and John Miner, both of Fredericksburg, Newton Miner Jr. of Clarksville, Ariz., and Phillip Miner of the home; two daughters, Martha Clausman of Gettysburg, Pa., and Carol Smith and her husband, Tony, of Stafford; two nieces, Phoebe Grossenbacher of Belle Haven and Joan Pope of North Stonington, Conn.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Cremation was by Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville, Ariz.
