STATE HAS 1,003 FATALITIES SO FAR
Highway fatalities on the rise in Virginia this year
Date published: 12/30/2007
For the first time since 1990, Virginia fatalities surpassed the 1,000 mark this year.
A car wreck that killed three people in Lynchburg yesterday and the death of a Maryland man yesterday from injuries sustained in a Stafford County crash earlier this month brought the total as of late yesterday to 1,003 fatalities in the state.
"One primary factor is the dramatic increase in motorcycle fatalities," said Corrine Gellar, state police spokeswoman.
Motorcycle fatalities have increased by about 87 percent this year compared with last year, she said.
From Jan. 1 to Nov. 5, 116 died in motorcyle-related deaths, compared with 62 in the same period last year.
State safety agencies tried to publicize the growing number of deaths this fall, launching a Web site, safevahighways.org, that asked, "Are You Virginia's Next Traffic Fatality?"
Motorists are asked to obey the speed limit, buckle up, drive free from the influence of alcohol and drugs, share the road and limit driver distractions.
Last year, 961 people died in motor-vehicle crashes in Virginia.

I would like to see the rates of the various years and vehicles. How many more more cars, trucks, and motorcycles are on the road since 1990?

Be Aware! Motorcyclists are out there.
Yeah, there are some [*#@!] motorcycle riders, but overall we are a safe bunch just out there to enjoy the Virginia scenery.
Please stay alert for motorcyclists, my wfie and two young kids love me.

Keep a picture of your loved on on your dashboard

A picture of your your mother; kids; your girlfriend; your husband. Keep it there and think of the pain you'll cause them then when the police officer knocks on their door to tell them you've been killed in a traffic accident because you ran a red light; sped down a residential street; or was tailgating. Keep it there as a reminder that you could cause the death or injury of someone else's loved one. Look at that photo and think about the consequences your reckless driving could have.
