Bill would ban testicular ornaments

Date published: 1/16/2008

RICHMOND--If you're among the (hopefully few) people whose idea of a classy car ornament is a pair of Truck Nutz, you'll want to pay attention to this.

Del. Lionel Spruill, D-Chesapeake, has introduced a bill to ban the ornamental genitalia, which come in a variety of colors and sizes and are usually displayed by hanging them off the backs of trucks, although they're also available for other vehicles.

Spruill said he's never seen the things himself, but that a constituent called to complain after his six-year-old granddaughter spotted a pair on a truck and asked what they were. The constituent wanted Spruill to put in a bill to ban the ornaments, which he and Spruill consider vulgar.

"I said, 'Sir, I'm going to be a laughingstock, but I'm going to do it,'" Spruill said.

Spruill may not have heard of the fake testicles before that constituent's call, but he's done his homework.

He waved pages printed off the Internet Web site that sells them as he described his bill for reporters.

He said that originally, such ornaments "were real small, nobody paid no mind," but that they are now sold in larger, more offensive versions. Some are certainly large enough to be noticeable--the biggest ones from the site Spruill researched weigh more than 2 pounds.

Spruill said--perhaps in jest, perhaps not--that he plans to bring a set of the fake testicles to the House floor to demonstrate for his colleagues just how distasteful they are.

His bill would make it a class 4 misdemeanor to display the testicular accessories, which carries a $250 fine.

Vote Nutz !! (posted by Ranko , Jan. 16, 2008 8:18 pm)
Is Del.Spruill up for re-election anytime soon? I sure hope the makers of Truck Nutz give him a nice payoff as they'll most likely sell 10 million more units now that this is put out around the world on the web and TV. Spruill will look like he's Nutz instead of my truck!

Come on f4d4ddy (posted by Al , Jan. 16, 2008 8:17 pm)
No self-respecting homosexual would ever put something that flippin stupid on their car. This is as redneck as cow patty frisbee. We all know the type. They drive trucks tall enough to safely clear an elephant and put dumb a$$ crap all over their bumpers. We've been on to them for decades. Its called overcompensation. Still, if my daughter asks me about it I'm gonna say "it's a nut sack kid." Half the population supposedly has them. Heck, her pet hamster is hung like Godzilla. We need to stop being so uptight about our anatomy. Kids don’t think this stuff is a big deal unless we teach them that it’s “dirty.” I’m just going to teach mine that it’s stupid.

Hey f4td4ddy... (posted by daydreamnation , Jan. 16, 2008 7:35 pm)
it looks as though you've let thistowniswrong's secret out. If these people like their "truck nutz" so much, how 'bout wearing them on a necklace and calling them "neck nutz." What? You're not that attached to them? Oh, I see.

Never seen 'em (posted by Minx , Jan. 16, 2008 6:11 pm)
They're 2lb each? I can't say I've ever seen truck nutz, but I've seen a lot of things much more offensive on both cars and trucks than that. As for Grandma, why doesn't she just tell the kid it's nothing he needs to worry about? Just some "nut" case :) Or a simple "I don't know exactly myself" would also suffice if she's too embarrased to say anything. Let's get to more important things than whether truck Nutz are in good taste or not

Let the man know how you feel (posted by wideopenspace , Jan. 16, 2008 5:54 pm)
dellspruill@aol.com or 757-424-2178 He even admitted that he would be laughed at over it but that he would introduce it anyway. Got a problem with nuts hanging down, grow a pair and grow up, this is the real world, not a utopia. Better call the I-80 Truck Stop in Iowa and make sure they don't sell'em to anyone from VA. They have loads of this stuff for sale.
