Widewater State Park draft master plan public hearing

Date published: 2/22/2008

Widewater State Park meeting scheduled

The public will have a chance to comment on the draft master plan for Widewater State Park in Stafford County at 7 p.m. on March 13 at Widewater Elementary School.

The proposed state park will be built on a peninsula between the Potomac River and Aquia Creek. Planners from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will attend the meeting.

The park will include campsites and facilities and offer activities such as fishing, canoeing and picnicking. Interpretive exhibits will be displayed at the visitors center.

Other attractions include an environmental education center with overnight facilities and a multi-use trail system.

Widewater Elementary School is at 110 Den Rich Road, Stafford, Va. The public may contact conservation and recreation department planning bureau manager Bob Munson at 804/786-6140 for more information.

Telecommuting test still going in Caroline

A free telecommuting center in Caroline County will be open today and next Friday as county staff gauges public interest in the service.

Wireless Internet access is available for county residents who want to work from the Community Services Center in Bowling Green every Friday this month from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Information Technology Manager J.P. Montague said only a few people have used the service so far. Many may not know about the availability, he said.

The Board of Supervisors announced the trial program last month. The county teamed with Virginia Broadband to offer wireless access on a temporary basis.

Supervisor Floyd Thomas said yesterday that the county would continue offering the telecommuting access "if there's a demand from county citizens."
