With barely two months to organize, fund, and promote her candidacy for state delegate of the 99th District, Lee Ann Washington was able to earn 42.4 percent of the votes cast for that office.
This was achieved in spite of her opponent's deep past in politics as a former delegate and his unsuccessful run for the Virginia Senate representing the 1st District.
I truly believe that Ms. Washington has a serious and beneficial future in Northern Neck politics.
This is despite Albert Pollard's erroneous assertion that "the Republicans could learn from the election that the road to Richmond is not paved with negative mailers. It's paved with common-sense Northern Neck values."
On the contrary, Ms. Washington exposed several parts of Mr. Pollard's voting record on the values that are near and dear to Northern Neck residents. Those mailings are factual, and might just be construed as "negative" by Mr. Pollard if he is embarrassed by the positions for which he voted.
I believe that Lee Ann Washington is quite correct about, and will vigorously fight for, those real Northern Neck values--lower taxes, preservation of farmers and farms, revitalization of fishing and oystering, the quality of our waters, protecting the unborn, preserving the right to bear arms, supporting parental consent, displaying the Ten Commandments, and retaining the concept of traditional marriage.
