Deputy faces rape charge

Fairfax County police officer charged with rape

Date published: 2/29/2008

BY ELLEN BILTZ

A Fairfax County sheriff's deputy who lives in Ruther Glen, has been charged with rape in Ocean City, Md.

Zachary Dennis Taylor, 31, was expected to turn himself in to police in Maryland last night, said Ocean City Police Department public information officer Michael Levy.

Levy said after talking with the woman who accused him of rape and questioning Taylor at the Ocean City Police Department, a warrant was obtained Wednesday for Taylor, charging him with second-degree rape.

Taylor is accused of meeting a 22-year-old woman at a club Sunday, bringing her back to his nearby hotel room, raping her and then leaving her alone in a hotel elevator.

The woman was found highly intoxicated and crying on a couch in the lobby, Levy said.

He said police identified Taylor as the suspect after questioning his friends who were staying in a block of rooms in the hotel. Taylor was still in his room, Levy said.

He also said that Taylor's story of Sunday night's events are much different than the girl's.

Taylor could be released on bond by the commissioner at any Maryland county that he decides to surrender to, Levy said. The commissioner in Maryland is similar to the magistrate in Virginia.

A spokesman at the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office said Taylor has been placed on administrative leave.

Maryland State Law (posted by Faust , Feb. 29, 2008 4:45 pm)
2nd Degree Rape/Assault in the State of Maryland is defined as follows: Vaginal intercourse by force or threat of force, or with mentally disabled victim, or with victim under 14 and perpetrator 4 years older. I don't know what happened between the two of them, but rest assured guilty or not, this mans career, his life, is over. I just hope for his sake he's innocent. Also, I feel very bad for the girl if it turns out she's telling the truth.

When will women (posted by fugyou , Feb. 29, 2008 1:43 pm)
stop getting drunk and going off with the guy standing closest to them? Ladies, smarten up! Men have been "taking advantage" of women since the beginning of time, and hanging out, DRUNK, in a bar, isn't the way to prevent it.

What happened to innocent till proven guitly? (posted by inos , Feb. 29, 2008 11:12 am)
It seems like with sex crimes the guy is always guitly till proven innocent. Every other crime people say that we should wait till the evidence comes to light. Look at what happened to Durham!!!! Those boys had their lives ruined by a woman with emotional problems and an AG who wanted votes. I agree with Blk that she probably just changed her mind. Of course, that won't stop the man's career from being ruined by this.
