Marcus B. Glassmire

Marcus Brent "Marc" Glassmire, 58, of King George County passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Mary Washington Hospital due to unexpected pulmonary complications following a gallant battle with Hodgkins lymphoma.

Marc was born in 1949 in Los Alamos, N.M., grew up in Santa Fe, N.M., and graduated from Santa Fe High School. Marc received his AA degree in business systems analysis and BBA degree in general business at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, N.M.

Marc's career in business systems analysis and design and data base management systems spanned from government support at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico to various contracting and consulting positions in Virginia. He most recently worked for Northrop Grumman in Chantilly

Marc was a member of the Los Alamos Elks Lodge, where he went through the officers chairs attaining grand exalted ruler in 1984.

Tavie, his wife of 37 years, survives him at the family home in King George. Marc also is survived by his beloved daughters, Mitzi Lancaster of Stafford County and Niki Glassmire of McLean; a son-in-law, Joe Lancaster; adorable granddaughters, Savannah and Ashley Lancaster; a sister, Bonita Brody-Stewart and her husband, Doug; his mother-in-law, Virginia Spencer; a brother-in-law, Charles Spencer and his wife, Sandi; his sisters-in-law, Teresa Spencer and her husband, Joe Boyle, and Charlotte Lynch and her husband, Keith; and "the New York daughter," Susan. Also surviving Marc are his seven nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norma and Sam Glassmire, and his father-in-law, Charles Spencer. Marc had a huge circle of friends, and will be missed by all.

Marc's love for life encompassed his love for his family and friends with many joyous memories centered around a good bowl of posole smothered with New Mexico red and green chili. He was an avid reader and loved to work crossword puzzles. His greatest passions beyond family and friends were a good game of golf and traveling in his motor home.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at Peace Lutheran Church in King George, by Pastor Terry Naumann.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marc's name may be sent to Elks National Foundation, c/o New Mexico State Chairman, Roger Hammon, Box 113, Dexter N.M., 88230; or to the Lymphoma Research Society, 115 Broadway, 13th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10006 (lymphoma.org).
