Have our leaders learned nothing from the war in Vietnam?

As reported in The Free Lance-Star on March 24, the U.S. death toll in Iraq tops 4,000. Divided by the five-year total time of the war, it equals 800 per year.

That does not sound like a large number unless one of those individuals is your loved one.

The number of wounded, many severely, is reported as 60,000.

I am hopeful the next U.S. president will quickly bring our troops home and end a war that even the more optimistic supporters feel is only halfway to completion.

I am sorry to say that it appears our political leaders did not learn from our war in Vietnam. History, it appears, does tend to repeat itself.
