Elwood R. Dawson

Elwood Ray Dawson, 86, of Hyacinth died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital.

He was a farmer and ran Northern Neck Farms at Village until it was destroyed by fire. He then owned and operated Dawson Homes Inc. at Village until his retirement.

He was a lifelong member of Henderson United Methodist Church in Hyacinth, where he sang in the choir for many years and served on several committees. He was a member of Westmoreland Royal Arch Chapter 41, Westmoreland Lodge 212, and the Betty Lewis Order of Eastern Star 107, both of Kinsale. He was the oldest son of the late Dewey and Bertie Dawson.

Survivors include his wife, Laura M. Dawson; a daughter, Raye Dawson; a son, Lewis E. Dawson and his wife, Roberta; his stepsons, Burnell Fallin and his fiancee, Pat Gingell, and Edwin Fallin and his wife, Valerie; his stepdaughters, Lisa Self and her husband, Tommy, Joyce Amos and her husband, Keith, and Wander Trower and her husband, Bob; a granddaughter, Holly Jackson and her husband, Mike; his grandsons, Brian Dawson and his fiancee, Kristina, Timothy W. Douglas and his wife, Michelle, and Keith M. Douglas; his great-grandchildren, Connor and Arianna Jackson, Shane Dawson, and Ashley, Damien and Hanna Douglas; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Kristin Devore and her husband, Josh, Mallory Trower, Travis Self, Matthew Self, Brandon, Amanda and Lauren Fallin, and Derek and Michele Thrift; a sister, Marjorie Tignor and her husband, Mac; a brother, Jack Dawson and his wife, Jane; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Deitz.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home, Marks Chapel, Warsaw, on Wednesday, April 16, with a Masonic memorial service at 7:15 p.m.

The family also will receive friends one hour prior to the 2 p.m. funeral Thursday, April 17, at Henderson United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
