Fredericksburg residents will choose a mayor and two council members today.
Voters in Culpeper, Orange, Colonial Beach and Bowling Green will also elect local leaders.
In the city, polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
In the days leading up to the election, mayoral candidates Debby Girvan and Tom Tomzak have both reported some large donations.
Girvan reported a $2,000 gift from Central Virginia Eurocars, on Fall Hill Avenue.
Tomzak reported $500 gifts from Economic Development Authority member Mary Jane O'Neill of the Cullen property management firm and from DND Jewelers on William Street.
He also reported a $2,000 loan from his wife, Suzanne Belmore.
Also, at-large candidate B-J Huff filed his full finance report, which was incomplete as of the last filing deadline.
His reports to date show that he has spent more money than he has brought in.
Huff reported having raised $1,275 during the last reporting period, giving him a total of $933.72 in cash, after his reported expenses.
He also reported $2,650.89 in unpaid invoices for badges, campaign literature and yard signs.

I'm so sick and tired about this election. Let's get it done and over with. To the candidates - please remove your campaign signs ASAP after the election is over. I'm sick of seeing them littering up the town (and even surrounding counties!)
I've waited for this day to come for what seems like eternity. All the bickering and bad mouthing will end or should end today. I'm sure that tomorrow there will be some disgruntled folks complaining about there candidate not being elected but all in all it will be OVER.....thank God. Now if I can just make it to the presidential election without blowing a gasket.....
