Winfrey Johnson Barfield Sr., 76, of Culpeper passed away, Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Culpeper Regional Hospital.
Winfrey was born Nov. 5, 1931, in Mitchell to William J. Barfield and Beulah Aylor Barfield. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, and was a meat-cutter at Culpeper Frozen Foods. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Culpeper and Culpeper United Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Barfield are his two children, Susan Barfield Edwards and her husband, Barry Jr., of Culpeper, Winfrey J. "Bubba" Barfield Jr. and his special friend, Janie Abers, of Culpeper; his siblings, Betty Lou Southard and her husband, Billy, of Warrenton, Franklin Barfield and his wife, Margaret, of Rixeyville, and Judy Ray and her husband, Richard, of Culpeper; and nieces and nephews, George Southard of Warrenton, Patti Rae Sale of Fredericksburg, Alicia Dee Motley of Fredericksburg and William Burke Hawkins of Fredericksburg; and his two grandsons, Ethan and Evan Edwards of Culpeper. Preceding Winfrey in death were his parents and his wife, Caroline Hawkins Barfield.
A funeral will be held Saturday, May 10, at 2 p.m. at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, Va. 22701, with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Pastor Randy Orndorff will conduct services.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the funeral home.
