Many in our area spend a good portion of the day riding up and down Interstate 95 going to work. Every administration for the past 10 years has been talking about "fixing" the transportation problem, yet none have.
The Democrats' typical response is to throw money at it, which always means more taxes for us.
The bottom line is that there are too many cars and not enough road during at certain times of the day. Both of the below recommendations will not cost the taxpayers a dime.
1. Create a tax incentive program for companies that employ a telecommute program to take vehicles off the road. This will also create more supply of gas, which may bring down the price eventually in a supply-and-demand economy.
2. Restrict semi-truck traffic on Interstate 95 during rush hours (e.g., from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. northbound, and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. southbound).

is smarter drivers. If you want to drive the speed limit or less, stay in the right lane. If you want to go fast, get into the left lane, and everyone else stay in the middle. Nobody weave in and out to get a car length ahead. Nobody tailgate and then slam on the brakes when the car in front of you burps..you get the point. None of this will happen because the one person in each of the cars on the 95 is in a hurry to get nowhere fast because they don't want anyone to get a leg up on them...
I-95 is not the traffic problem -(posted by

Sorry but I-95 is not the traffic solution - money collected to pay for its maintenace is great but what about the remianing 99% of Virginia road issues? Trying to get ahead of traffi ccongestion on I-95 is not a viable option with this Commonwealth's VDOT disfuntioning position. The best way to "fix" it is to leave it alone until VDOT is reorganized into a roadway maintenance arm instead of a roadway construction tasking. Maintaining VA highway and roads will make a ton of differnence to life.

Riva, trucks are already restricted to 2 lanes in the legal sense. The writer wants to restrict trucks on I-95 at rush hour? Hello, your in OUR way to deliver the goods you so desperately need and want. We have a job to do and the highway is our office. If your talking about the state doing this, they cannot touch I-95 with that type of stuff unless the Feds approve it first. It is a federal highway, not a state highway. The only way to fix I-95 is to widen it to 12 lanes and get better drivers on it.
