Shegog invited to trials

Brooke Point High School senior Chay Shegog has been invited to USA Basketball's U18 women's basketball trials.

Shegog, a four-time Free Lance-Star area player of the year, is one of 35 players invited to the trials, June 9-12 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Also on the list is Linetta Kizer of Potomac High School in Dumfries.

After tryouts, the 12-player national team will be announced. The team will compete in the FIBA Americas U18 Championships July 23-27 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Shegog, a 6-foot-4 center, averaged 20.5 points, 14.4 rebounds and 9.2 blocked shots per game for the Black-Hawks as a senior. She holds nearly every school career record and was named to the McDonald's All-America team as well as The Associated Press' all-state team.

She has signed to play at North Carolina in the fall.
