People are hurting, but Kaine, other Democrats want to up their taxes

Congratulations, Virginians. We've now become a state where the prevailing policies are tax and spend, tax and spend.

For the last six years, we've seen an enormous increase in the state budget, rising from about $66 billion (for two years) to $80 billion (for two years.)

We've had two Democratic governors, both presiding over huge tax increases. Now, Gov. Kaine wants another $1 billion a year for roads; increased vehicle-registration fees; increased sales taxes on home sales; a user tax increase from 3 percent to 4 percent; and extra sales taxes in Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads.

Both the Warner and Kaine administrations have been "tax and spend."

These tax increases come at a time when our homes have dropped 20 percent or more in value, oil is more than $120 a barrel, the dollar has dropped to near all-time lows, and our deficits are increasing.

Wages have not kept up with real inflation, savings are at an all-time low, and people are struggling. People are hurting financially, and our legislators want more huge tax increases.

It is time to tell them "No!" Our pockets are not open for them to spend with no regard for fiscal responsibility.

And in the next election, remember the Democrats for what they are: tax and spenders. Same as they've always been.

You make no cents... (posted by kashmir840 , May 20, 2008 9:52 am)
Okay, so is it more fiscally irresponsible to tax and then spend, or to deficit spend? The government will spend money; there are roads to maintain, children to educate, and public safety programs to improve. We'll just let Virginia go into the same hole as the fiscally responsible Republican party has put the U.S. You know, I'm from a state where there is a 6.5 cent sales tax and gas is $4 a gallon. I think Virginians need to stop complaining about the overdue raise in helping out our public needs.

Let me get this straight! (posted by Rugergpc , May 17, 2008 5:33 pm)
Everything needs to be maintained to keep it's functionality and for reasons of safety and it costs money to maintain everything. BUT, it's all the fault of Kaine and other Democrats, that things can't be maintained for FREE and to maintain these things it will require taxing to raise the necessary funds....Yeah, that makes sense. Oh, by the way, I hurt my back trying to get my head up my butt, so I could see things with the same perspective as you do.

Wow, I didnt know illegals were the root of all evil. If they were gone all the traffic would magically disappear. Health care costs would go down. I didnt realize it was all that simple

I hate Kaine. Tax and spend is right. Maybe some social programs have to get cut to pave the roads. That's harsh reality

Illegals!! (posted by GaryShorts , May 17, 2008 9:41 am)
It's the illegal aliens that are on our roads causing the traffic jams and the high gas prices. If the liberal governor would deport the illegals we wouldn't have this economic recession and rising health care costs problems in Virginia either. What we need is a tax cut to solve the problems in Virginia.
