As the country honors our military veterans on Memorial Day, Spotsylvania County will pay tribute to local servicemen and servicewomen.

All Spotsylvania veterans have been invited to participate in the annual event, on May 26 at 11:30 a.m. on the lawn of the Spotsylvania Courthouse. The public is welcome to attend.

"We have 30 photos of retired and deceased veterans that will be on display," organizer Lee Broughton said.

Of those veterans honored, three will be singled out for special recognition.

Alfred Fairchild Sr. and Robert Taylor--89 and 90, respectively, will be commended as the senior veterans of the group. Both men enlisted in the Army on the same day in 1943.

Michel Schilling will be honored as the junior veteran.

JROTC cadets from Spotsy High School will perform a flag ceremony and county supervisor Hap Connors will address the audience. The event should last about an hour and a half.
