Curious about HOT lanes? Want to know what's being done to find more commuter parking in Stafford County?
A one-stop information session on these topics and on a planned Interstate 95 interchange project, has been set up for Stafford County residents.
The public can learn more at two identical information meetings, scheduled for 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday at Anne E. Moncure Elementary, 75 Moncure Lane.
The school is next to North Stafford's most popular commuter parking lots.
"Our hope is people will just come from their commuter parking spots over to the meeting," said Stafford spokeswoman Cathy Riddle.
Virginia Department of Transportation and Stafford officials will lead the one-hour sessions.
Commuters will learn about the construction schedule for the proposed high occupancy toll lanes on I-95, and how it could affect commuting and parking in Stafford. Officials will also discuss a planned reconstruction of the I-95 Courthouse Road interchange, and how that project may impact commuters. Finally, commuters can learn what's being done to try to find additional parking for carpools, vanpools and slugs in North Stafford.
The public will have a chance to ask questions following the presentations and make comments.
Stafford Supervisor Mark Dudenhefer had the original idea for the sessions. He noticed there was a lot of misinformation circulating about the projects, and he wanted residents to have a chance to comment on them, too.
Dudenhefer said he will stay "as long as people want to vent."
Interested in joining or forming a carpool or vanpool? The George Washington Regional Commission will have representatives from GWRideConnect, a free commuter matching service, at the meetings.
There also will be information about buses and Virginia Railway Express.

Yes - HOT Lanes Stupid, Metro is good(posted by

However, Howell & Kaine have sold us out. I would like to see Metro ran down the HOV corridor - but Howell/Kaine do not. We lost control when they got elected. The contract with Transurban/Fleur was supposed to have already been signed for our area, but there has been a safety and gridlock glitch. Signing has been delayed to work it out. Maybe we could delay it long enough to vote those greedy clowns out of office, not sign Transurban contract, and get our Metro instead.

Instead of the HOV/HOT lanes, spend the money on bringing a Metro line to Fredericksburg. VRE is ok for the DC commuters, but not for the occasional user, or weekend user. I'm sure they'd get a big boost in ridership if they continued the Blue or Yellow line down here.
HOT lanes are STUPID(posted by

The concept of HOT lanes is just plain STUPID. What this region need is 5-6 lanes of I-95 N and S to deal with local and Interstate traffic. Current HOV lanes are underutilized. Selling our infrastructure to is just a sign that VDOT is incapable of dealing with its responsibilities. To add insult to injury, Stafford only gets about $3.5M per year to deal with 1100 lane miks of secondary roads that would cost $1M per mile to upgrade.
