Margaret B. Poles
Margaret Baughan Poles, 85, of King William County peacefully went home to be with her Lord Saturday, June 21, 2008. She was the widow of Moses T. Poles Jr.
She is survived by her devoted children, Gwendolyn Sands, Margaret Spencer and her husband, James, Moses T. Poles III and Michael Poles Sr. and his wife, Priscilla; her loving grandchildren, Leonard Dungee, Monique Dabney and her husband, Roger, Michael Poles Jr., Stephen Spencer, Allena Poles and LaKesha King; and her precious great-grandchildren, Brandon, Bryant and Brittany Dungee and Desiree and Alexis Dabney. She also is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. She also leaves two caring sisters-in-law, Josephine Baughan and Wilhelmina Baughan.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Celestine Hanna, Ollie Byrd and Thelma Holmes; and brothers, Wilbert Baughn, Richard Baughn, Bernard Baughan, Francis Baughan and Thomas Baughan.
A native of King and Queen County, Mrs. Poles was a 1939 graduate of Rappahannock Industrial Academy in Essex County and a 1943 graduate of Virginia State University in Petersburg. A lifelong teacher, she taught in the school systems of Lunenburg, Essex County and King William County.
A community activist, she was active in many civic organizations, including serving as president of the King William Teacher's Association, the King and Queen-King William-West Point Retired Teachers Association and the District C Virginia Retired Teachers Association.
A dedicated Godly woman, she served faithfully at Third Union Baptist Church in King William until her homegoing. At Third Union Church, she served as president of the Deaconess Board, the Matron's Guild and the Missionary Society. She also served as director of the Dramatics Club and chairperson of the Hospitality Committee.
"Granny/Po-Poles" took care of her family until God called her home. She always loved and cared for her family. She will be missed by all who loved her and will forever be in our hearts and minds. Heaven received a perfect angel.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Third Union Baptist Church.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at the church.
Services are entrusted to Washington Funeral Home, Tappahannock.
