Now is not the time to impose a BPOL tax
Right now, businesses across our nation and our commonwealth are facing very challenging times. Stafford County's businesses are not immune from the uncertainties affecting companies large and small across America. Indeed, the pressures of difficult economic times are keenly felt by every Stafford business. 3 supervisors will vote against raising BPOL taxes. I'm not even going to TRY changing their minds. The other 4 supervisors are leaning towards approving these taxes. Unless tonight's mob changes one of those 4 votes, those taxes ARE coming. I don't much care one way or the other.
If so, I KNOW you don't want these taxes! (I wouldn't either.)
Affect those on the lower economic end more than those at the upper end. Econ 101. One more time, MOST businesses will pass their costs on to the consumer. Where is the real proof that companies will eat extra taxes. This rhetoric just doesn't add up. A few pennies here and there and soon it adds up to real money. Don't we want to attract high paying industry and jobs to Stafford? BPOL will kill the one thing that makes us different from neighbors and will inhibit our econ engine, business and job growth.
