Elva E. Rose

Elva E. Rose, 77, of King George County departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, June 27, 2008.

Mrs. Rose was born July 20, 1930. She received her GED and had worked as a shipping and labeling department supervisor at Mount Rose Canning Company. Later she worked at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren. She loved her country dearly and was the supportive spouse of a military man for 28 years.

She loved her Lord and was a faithful member of Round Hill Baptist Church. She loved her church and was so grateful for her Sunday school class, The Young at Heart.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 33 years, 1st Ssgt. George T. Rose; her father, Jessie F. Lumpkin, her mother, Elizabeth Rouse Lumpkin; sisters Effie Lumpkin, Edith DeCapua and Elsie Marshall; and brothers Harold Lumpkin and Kenneth Lumpkin.

She is survived by her loving children, Dr. Marcie R. Gibson and her husband, Paul, of Chesapeake, Marilyn R. Deyo of King George and the Rev. Marvin L. Rose and his wife, Melinda, of Baytown, Texas; two brothers, Jessie D. Lumpkin of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Wilbur R. Lumpkin of King George; and one sister, Evelyn Lumpkin of King George. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Laurie Meltsner, Stephen, Tommy and Brian Gibson and Hanna, Sarah and Timothy Rose; and her great-grandchildren, Katie Lawton, Jonas Gibson and Ryan Gibson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at Round Hill Baptist Church, King George, with a reception immediately following at the church. A private interment will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the building fund at Round Hill Baptist Church, Box 467, King George, Va. 22485.
