Attacks with sword, chain saw in Culpeper

Culpeper make arrests in separate attacks involving chain saw, samurai sword.

The moon changed Thursday night, and, for the next two days, Culpeper County sheriff's deputies found themselves dealing with bizarre incidents.

One man was accused of chasing his brother with a chain saw while another was accused of threatening his brother-in-law with a samurai sword.

The chain-saw incident occurred Friday shortly after 11 p.m. at a home off Germanna Highway near Lig-num. Deputy Mark Putnam responded to a domestic-assault call and found a man with his left arm bandaged.

Sgt. Vern Fox said the 37-year-old man told Putnam his younger brother had chased him with a chain saw and injured his arm. The chain saw, however, was not running, according to the police report.

The victim said the brother had left on foot. Culpeper town police officer Lonnie Myers was called to bring out a tracking dog.

The dog led police officers to a nearby residence where 20-year-old Donnie Justin White was located, arrested and charged with malicious wounding and assault and battery on a family member.

During processing, it was determined that White was wanted in Charlottesville on 10 outstanding felony warrants, Fox said. He is being held without bond pending his first court appearance July 8.

The second incident occurred just before 10 p.m. Saturday at a home off Eggbornsville Road. When deputies responded, they were told that the victim had been assaulted by his brother-in-law and threatened with a samurai sword.

Gregory Paul Stanley Jr., 18, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault on a family member.

The victim was treated at Culpeper Regional Hospital, Fox said.

A lot of the attacks and stuff (posted by wideopenspace , July 1, 2008 5:30 pm)
have been with immigrants involved, many were illegal immigrants. The rest of these are normal every weekend BS with the country folk. They get drunk and things get a bit rowdy, nothing new. Need help, nah, they have a few former football players on their staffs that can handle just about anything when they are on duty.

attacks with sword and chainsaw in Culpeper (posted by bucks , July 1, 2008 12:13 pm)
What is going on in Culpeper? It's a beautiful country town with a great main street. During the last few years an undercurrent of rage, gang activity, criminal acts too violent to even want to think about have been taking place. There's more police activity reported in Culpeper than in the surrounding counties. Need more deputies or what?
