H. Wayne Smith

Harold Wayne Smith, 64, of Bealeton died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a three-year battle with leukemia.

A native of Stafford County, Mr. Smith was the son of the late John and Lily Smith. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during Vietnam. He was a member of Hartwood Presbyterian Church and a life member of VFW 7728 in Remington. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his three sisters, Shirley Embrey and her husband, Walter, of Stafford County; Verna Eley of Richardsville and Audrey Hurlock and her husband, Walter, of Richardsville; a sister-in-law, Vera Smith of Fredericksburg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Smith; a sister, Edna Leach and her husband, Zane; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Eley. Wayne also was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Claudia Olinger, and is survived by her family.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Hartwood Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Rick Ritchie officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 11, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
