Sic semper tyrannis, in Stafford County?

How unfitting it is that as we celebrated the 232nd anniversary of rebellion against tyranny, the tyrant's head is once again raised ["Stafford supervisors approve BPOL tax, starting in 2010," July 3].

This time, though, the tyrant does not take the form of an empire's king anointed to his role by birth; it has taken shape in the form of a group of small-minded men, anointed by Stafford's Democratic Party, and supposedly elected to do the people's business.

On July 1, Supervisors George Schwartz, Harry Crisp, and Robert Woodson chose the side of tyranny in passing the harshest, most indiscriminate, and un-American form of taxation, the Business and Professional Occupation License tax.

More appalling is that Supervisor Joe Brito--a man free of the bonds of party through being elected as an Independent, the one man who should bring balance to the board--sided with tyranny in the passing of this tax.

His defining opportunity came at 2:40 a.m. on July 2, when the vote on a substitute motion to defeat the BPOL tax was taken and Joe Brito cast his vote, siding with residents and defeating this harshest form of taxation.

However, he rescinded under the glare of party tyrants, invoking a shady form of parliamentary procedure in asking that his vote be retaken.

Despite the 10-to-1 voice of the people against the BPOL, the people lost.

At 2:45 a.m. on July 2, the seeds of rebellion were once again sown. These seeds will be nurtured and grow over the coming year.

Next July 4, we will again see this crop blossom as we raise the flag of freedom. We will harvest this crop of freedom in November 2009, when once again we toss the yoke of tyranny aside and retake Stafford from the bonds of the tyrants.

hpdomi BZZZT Wrong answer, thanks for playing (posted by Bumpy , July 20, 2008 10:59 am)
Social Services? Hold on while I have a laugh. I don't recall anyone from the county helping me when I lost my job last year, Schools? You mean the one they built and won't open? Fire and Rescue? Are you referring to running off volunteers and buying trucks we can't staff? Oh, I get it now, you're talking about hiring even more county employees to administer a new regressive tax on business, implemented by supervisors who couldn't pass a 7th grade math test.

Cut spending (posted by hpdomi , July 20, 2008 7:15 am)
Okay, "Bumpy." First, let's cut more from fire & rescue. Then, when you have a medical emergency, no one will help you. Second, cut more from schools. Brilliant. Third, cut more from social services. When you end up without a job, no one will help you. Ain't life grand? Remember, "the 3 stooges" who voted against the license fee had "no bpol" stickers on.I'd say THEIR minds were made up BEFORE the meeting

Bord or EGOs (posted by Grumpy1 , July 19, 2008 4:11 pm)
Great entertainment the other night guys.... We had a clown who's math capacity indicates he would fail the class in our schools. WHere are the little old ladies standing on the corner with your vote for me signs now? Then there is the I am tired vote reversal. That was awesome display of stupidity dude. Maybe I'll win on funniest videos with that one. You boobs need a pretty big rock to crawl under after that one. What a life defining moment this was... All for ego. You ROCK ... NOT!

Stafford - Taxing our way to prosperity since 2008 (posted by Bumpy , July 19, 2008 11:13 am)
hpdomi - *you* keep on sucking it up. I will continue to demand more from our elected "officials". The "gutless 4" on the BOS are clueless abou what they are doing. They do not serve their constituents and their votes are decided before any public hearing. BTW, I am a Stafford resident and small business owner who will not have to pay the BPOL. Is it whining to demand better from our elected officials? NO. Stafford needs to cut spending, period. And get a BOS with at least a room temperature IQ.

An Olive Branch to Democrats (posted by LibBuster , July 19, 2008 10:54 am)
I have been thinking and aybe I was too hard on calling Democratic Supervisor Woodson an incompetent boob. As a sign of good will to you Democrats and BPOL supporters, I will email Mr. Woodson and offer to tutor him in junior high school math. That way he will be able to function at the 8th grade level.

What do you think?
