Loaves and fishes in King George County

Loaves and fishes in King George County

In recent months, the food pantry in King George County began to run very low. Donations were down, and we were seeing many more families in need of food.

A very nice woman from one of our local churches came in and asked what she could do. I simply told her we needed food for the food pantry.

It became a one-woman quest to fill the food bank. Word spread as she took action.

County Supervisor Jim Howard heard about the need and made June a month for collecting food, with full support of the entire Board of Supervisors.

Food began to come in. Considerable donations were made, from garden clubs to realty offices. Hundreds of people responded to our need.

The shelves that were once almost dry were full once again. This drive began with a single flame and spread like wildfire.

Actually, to me, that came as no surprise. Anyone who knows King George knows the generosity of its residents and the care they have for their neighbors.

In times of need, this community responds in a big way. My staff and I want to thank the residents of King George for their kindness and support.

I also want everyone who donated even a single can of food to know that the families who have a need are getting the food.

King George is a fantastic community of wonderful and caring people.
