James H. Shackelford

James H. Shackelford Jr., 80, of Washington, D.C., passed away Monday, July 21, 2008, at the Armed Forces Retirement Home.

He was born in Alma, Ga. He served in World War II and the Korean War and was proud to have served his country as a Navy veteran. He retired from the Navy after 20 years of service.

James loved sports, the dog track and, most of all, Texas Holdem. He always had a smile and a positive outlook on life. He was the best father and best friend.

James was preceded in death by his son, James Ashley Shackelford; a sister, Ann Forkel; and his parents.

He is survived by his children, Cheryl Roberts and her husband, Jerry, and Patricia Swor and her husband, Bill; his brother, Billy Shackelford; and his three grandchildren, Jeffrey Bennett, Brett Roberts and Carson Roberts. He also leaves his Texas Holdem friend, Bullet.

A funeral will be held in Quantico National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in James' name to the Armed Forces Retirement Home, 3700 North Capitol St. N.W., Volunteer Services, Washington, D.C. 20011.
