Caroline searching for missing man

Police Briefs

Date published: 8/5/2008

By Ellen Biltz

The Caroline County Sheriff's Office was looking yesterday for a 71-year-old man who reportedly wandered away from a nursing home.

Sheriff Tony Lippa said the search began just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday when his office received a call that Richard Robertson was missing from the Bowling Green Health Care Center on Anderson Avenue. Lippa said authorities from multiple local agencies conducted an air and ground search for Robertson Sunday and yesterday.

Robertson is described as white, clean-shaven, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing jeans and a gray short-sleeved shirt. Lippa said Robertson suffers from dementia and is in need of medication.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 804/633-5400.

Its so sad... (posted by areyouserious , Aug. 6, 2008 9:19 pm)
Its also so easy to point the finger..People have no idea about this gentlemans history. For people to point out "bad care"they had their family member there for 2 years???Its so easy to point out the "bad" in Long Term care facilities.People forget about the "good" that these facilities do.Like when families drop their loved ones off and never look back. That is more common than a missing person! My sugestion to all that have an issue is - get a Nursing License and be an advocate and work in these facilities!

How can you judge (posted by areyouserious , Aug. 6, 2008 9:08 pm)
If your grandmother had such bad care leaving her there for 2 years seems ridiculous.....

Not surprised (posted by Vickie , Aug. 5, 2008 10:14 pm)
I'm not surprised to read this about BGHCC. My grandmother lived there 2 yrs. My mom & aunt had to go almost daily to be sure she got the care she needed. Alarms are on doors so either they were off or no one cared to check when alarm went off. I see no reason why this should've happened. Praying for the best but I'm worried. Wonder how long it was before he was missed?

Information (posted by ProudMomOf2 , Aug. 5, 2008 10:22 am)

Sad (posted by returninghome , Aug. 5, 2008 10:01 am)
I worked in a local nursing home 15 yrs ago in this area and if a patient had went out the door alarm would off couldn't that have worked there?? as we all know nursing homes are underpaid and under staffed there should be a way to have patient wear a wrist bracelet with something on it to set off a alarm, or have some one at the desk watching the door or the emergency doors locked at all times this is soo sad :( i hope for his sake hes found alive
