Freddie W. Hall

Freddie Wilson Hall, 84, of Ladysmith passed away at his home Monday, Aug. 18, 2008.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 81st Fighter Squadron in the Army Air Forces in Northern France and landing in Normandy shortly after D-Day.

He was a member of County Line Baptist Church. A generous and kind man, he was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need, quietly doing various acts of charity that may have gone unknown. He also helped in the community in several ways. He was a member of Ladysmith Volunteer Fire Department, serving as chief for several years during the 1950s. He also was the owner of Hall's Esso/Exxon of Ladysmith for over 35 years. Many young men in the area had their first job working for Mr. Hall.

He enjoyed country music and loved playing the guitar with his friends. He also enjoyed fishing at Lake Caroline, where he was one of the first property owners. He was married to Genny Hall for more than 60 years, lovingly caring for her until her death in June 2007.

Survivors include his three children, Lorraine Hall Miller of Ladysmith, Thomas Wood Hall of Baltimore, Md., and Denise Hall Wendle of Harrisburg, Pa.; five grandchildren, Shawn Kendall and Chad Kendall, both of Orlando, Fla., Jason Wendle of Cambridge, Mass., Ethan Wendle of Port Matilda, Pa., and Heather Crabtree of Ladysmith; and three great-grandchildren, Jackson Kendall and Sophie Kendall of Orlando, Fla., and Jonah Wendle of Cambridge. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Hall Kulynych and Doris Hall Servais; and a brother, Bubba Hall.

A funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with the Rev. Franklyn Carrington of Manassas officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in County Line Baptist Church cemetery, Ruther Glen. Following the burial, friends and family will be received in the church fellowship hall.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mary Washington Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, Va. 22407; or to Ladysmith Volunteer Rescue Squad, Box 53, Ladysmith, Va. 22501.
