Brenda C. Sanders

Brenda Carol Sanders, 61, of King George County died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mrs. Sanders was raised in Clintwood and graduated from Washington & Lee High School in Alexandria and Strayer University. She had retired from Verizon with over 30 years of service. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church, where she was an Awana Sparks leader. Brenda was an accomplished cake decorator. She loved shopping and going to yard sales with her daughters and flower gardening with her grandchildren. She enjoyed family vacations and had received the Mother of the Century award from The Free Lance-Star.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Danny Sanders; her children, Teresa Roberson and her husband, Darrell, and Patricia Clift and her husband, Monty, all of Stafford County, and Gary Sanders and his wife, Kristina, Jason Sanders and his wife, Candice, and Jonathan Sanders, all of King George; eight grandchildren, Brittany Clift, John Clift, Ashley Sanders, Crystal Roberson, Casey Sanders, Courtney Sanders, Austin Sanders and Emily Carol Sanders; two brothers, Floyd Hill of Fredericksburg and Larry Hylton of Bluefield, W.Va.; a sister, Peggy Cook of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.

A funeral will be held at noon Friday, Sept. 5, at Mountain View Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Robinson and the Rev. Willis A. Dempsey officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dexter Sanders Jr., Donnie Sanders, Don Fike, Floyd Hill Jr., Paul Atkinson, Robert Bowman, Devain Bowman and Donnie Sparks. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
