Two Spotsylvania County men were arrested on cocaine charges Thursday after police received an anonymous tip and searched their homes.
Detectives first arrested Lester Leonard, 47, after police stopped him in the early morning hours Thursday while he was driving his pickup, said 1st Sgt. Liz Scott of the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office.
They found more than 3 grams of cocaine inside, she said. Police also searched his home and found a handgun and drug paraphernalia including packaging materials and scales consistent with selling narcotics, Scott said.
Leonard, who has a previous convictions for assault, child neglect and possession of a controlled substance, was charged Thursday with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
After sending Leonard to the Rappahannock Regional Jail to be held without bond, police went to 39-year-old Charles White's home with a search warrant, Scott said.
There, Scott said, detectives found 40 grams of crack cocaine, half an ounce of marijuana, a handgun and more than $2,000.
White was charged with possession with the intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana, possession of a firearm while possessing cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Scott said.
White, who has previous convictions for distributing cocaine and distributing fake cocaine, also is being held without bond.

However, I'd say the fls probably got this story right. They only had an anon tip, and thats why they pulled over Leonard, probably following him until they could make a "proper" stop (he swerved etc) . Once they search him, they use his actual knowledge of White to secure a SW on White's house..clearing the lack of anything other than anonymous tip. Leonard may go free by suppression (or get a sweet plea), but they at least get the dealer. But true, the story makes it sound like an anon tip got two SWs.

How the hell the going to seach a person house over a anonymous tio? People Always hate on what the other person have and will do anything to destory them. IF the person who send the tip read this you wikll have no good luck

Don't you think that maybe the Free-Slant Star got the story a little turned around? It happens all the time...people get misquoted, certain things don't get released, or get left out of the story. And the story doesn't say where in the events the tip came in; before the stop, during the stop or after. It doesn't even say the tip was used except during the sensationalistic intro! I'm sure they used probably cause to get a search warrant, not just a tip.
4th amendment anyone?

So they procured this search warrant through an anonymous tip? This is a suppression hearing that the defense will likely win. What magistrate gives 2 search warrants on an anonymous tip? Thats a no no.
