TONIGHT'S HOT TICKETS CAROLINE AT CHANCELLOR, 7:30
Last meeting: The Cavaliers snapped the Chargers' three-game winning streak with a 14-7 win in last year's district opener.
Tonight's game: After weeks of anticipation, the Battlefield District gets down to business with its league play. Tonight's showdown at Chancellor could be a good one.
The Cavaliers (4-1) showed their mettle in last week's 15-12 victory at Eastern View. QB Jamar Samuel led a late rally with a 10-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter to put Caroline ahead, and then tacked on two interceptions to seal the win.
The undefeated Chargers should be ready after last week's bye. Two weeks ago they pounded Broadway 47-14 behind QB Micah Cunningham's strong rushing performance and two TD passes. Chancellor (5-0) is ranked fifth in the latest AP prep poll and first in Region I, Division 4 power points.
COURTLAND AT MONTICELLO, 7:30
Last meeting: QB Luke Sellers' two-point conversion run propelled the Cougars to an exciting 42-41 win last year.
Tonight's game: Two perennial playoff contenders collide in this non-district contest and both appear headed for the postseason again.
The Cougars are rated second in Region I, Division 4 and have defeated their first five opponents with a productive offense and a stifling defense that has recorded two shutouts. Last week, they limited Spotsylvania to seven first downs in a 42-0 victory.
After a tough 19-18 loss to Powhatan, the defending state champion Mustangs have posted two impressive wins over Orange and Louisa by a combined 68-27 margin. Monticello is ranked second in Region II, Division 3.
COLONIAL FORGE AT STAFFORD, 7:30
Last meeting: The Indians picked up their first Commonwealth District victory last year with a 20-17 win at Colonial Forge.
Tonight's game: Always a big county rivalry, this game also comes at a pivotal time for both teams as the Commonwealth District race starts to heat up.
After two losses, the Eagles have won three straight and are tied with Brooke Point for the district lead. Last week, new QB Timothy Scott was steady in his first start, running for a TD and passing for another as the Eagles struck early and rolled past Albemarle, 45-23.
