Tonight's game: Two perennial playoff contenders collide in this non-district contest and both appear headed for the postseason again.
The Cougars are rated second in Region I, Division 4 and have defeated their first five opponents with a productive offense and a stifling defense that has recorded two shutouts. Last week, they limited Spotsylvania to seven first downs in a 42-0 victory.
After a tough 19-18 loss to Powhatan, the defending state champion Mustangs have posted two impressive wins over Orange and Louisa by a combined 68-27 margin. Monticello is ranked second in Region II, Division 3.
COLONIAL FORGE AT STAFFORD, 7:30
Last meeting: The Indians picked up their first Commonwealth District victory last year with a 20-17 win at Colonial Forge.
Tonight's game: Always a big county rivalry, this game also comes at a pivotal time for both teams as the Commonwealth District race starts to heat up.
After two losses, the Eagles have won three straight and are tied with Brooke Point for the district lead. Last week, new QB Timothy Scott was steady in his first start, running for a TD and passing for another as the Eagles struck early and rolled past Albemarle, 45-23.
The Indians used a solid effort by their defense and 453 yards of offense to break into the win column at Mountain View. QB Christian Monsivais sparked the victory with a big night on the ground and through the air. The senior's 272 yards included a

The Foxes and Yellow Jackets begin their Battlefield District schedules at Maury Stadium. Last week, JM tuned up for tonight's homecoming contest by routing Orange 42-15, while King George edged William Monroe, 30-24.
COLONIAL BEACH AT KING WILLIAM, 7
The Drifters aim for their first Tidewater District win after an impressive 28-24 victory over previously unbeaten Franklin last week. WB Nick Peterson's 2-yard pass reception from QB Dylan Farinet with one second remaining was the difference.
CHARLOTTESVILLE AT LOUISA, 7:30
The Lions try to get back on the winning track after losing two of their last three contests. Last week, they fell behind 17-0 at Monticello and never recovered despite 189 yards of passing from QB Dillon Hollins.
ESSEX AT NORTHUMBERLAND, 7
The streaking Trojans (6-0) take on the Indians in their Northern Neck District opener. Both squads captured non-district wins last week. Essex pounded Sussex 43-12, while Northumberland got past Charles City, 34-26.
LANCASTER AT WASHINGTON & lEE, 7
The Eagles take aim for another strong run in the Northern Neck District race against the improved Red Devils. Last week, they won their second straight game, blitzing Northampton 47-14 behind QB Scott Taylor's four TD passes.
LIBERTY AT BATTLEFIELD, 7:30
The Eagles and their potent offense, which averages 45 points a game, gets a stiff challenge from the Bobcats and their stingy defense, which allows just seven points per contest. Last week, Liberty improved to 4-1 by shutting out Stonewall Jackson.
MADISON COUNTY AT EASTERN VIEW, 7:30
After dropping a hard-fought decision to future Battlefield District rival Caroline, the Cyclones entertain the unbeaten Group A Mountaineers. RB Stevie Strother was a standout in the 15-12 loss to the Cavaliers, rushing for 142 yards and a TD.
