Pumpkins: Pretty pricey today
Date published: 10/12/2008
Since when is charging $14 per person to go to a pumpkin patch "family-friendly"? And taking kids to the movies has long been out of the picture.
What is a struggling family to do that doesn't have hundreds of extra dollars lying around to entertain their kids?
The best I can do for mine right now is a kid's meal and the free time he can spend in the fast food restaurants' play areas while we eat.
Come on, Fredericksburg. Look around; people are struggling. I think local businesses need to step into the real world for a bit and see that the money isn't there like it used to be.

I feel your pain. We chose Sneads again this year because I didn't want to spend $56.00 just to walk onto the farm. But you have to understand that their prices have gone up as well. They are paying more for everything from gas for their farm equipment to fertilizer for their fields. They are, after all, a business and need to do what they need to do to keep afloat - just like the rest of us. Try Sneads. We were there again yesterday and had a GREAT time!

I feel your pain...but when i was younger single parent of 2 children living in this area.. sure things were less, but so was the money. Guess im getting at i didnt complain and write to the Editor . I just sucked it up and didnt didnt put out there that i couldnt afford things, and took them to washingtons birthplace for picnics.. and to the park. Its always something we cant afford for our children . theres tons of free things to do in this area now with the internet you can find more things to do .

We stopped going there years ago because it cost so much
just to walk onto the farm. Sneads has had to raise prices but
they are still a good value.

The public library often has many free, wonderful events for kids of all ages. At our local library, if an event is for younger children, my 10 and 13 yr olds volunteer to help. They really enjoy that.
