Redding to have surgery

Nats' Redding to have surgery on foot

Date published: 11/25/2008

By Rich Campbell

Washington Nationals right-hander Tim Redding will have surgery on his left foot Friday.

The procedure will repair damage to the bone in the joint at the base of his second toe. The surgery will be performed in Baltimore by Nationals medical director Dr. Wiemi Douoguih and foot and ankle specialist Dr. Lew Schon.

Redding, who turns 31 in February, is expected to be healthy by the start of spring training.

He went 10-11 with a 4.95 ERA in 2008, leading all Nationals pitchers in wins and strikeouts (120) during his second season with the club. He also tied lefty John Lannan for most innings pitched (182).

He was 6-3 with a 3.16 ERA on May 19, but he went 4-8 with a 5.76 ERA in 23 starts after that. He made $1 million in 2008 and is eligible for salary arbitration this offseason
