Others aren't crying like the auto industry

The U.S. auto industry problems are no worse than any others.

I see their executives crying every night about money problems. I don't hear Toyota crying. I don't hear Nissan crying to Congress, either.

And I have not heard any home-builders whining to Congress for money.

The U.S. home-building industry has been in a recession for three years. We have suffered and struggled more than the auto industry crybabies.

We in the home-building business have cut our payrolls and reduced our salaries to stay in business. The construction industry is trying to work its way through its problems of slumped sales, unemployment, and more layoffs.

Yes, there are many companies that have gone out of business and probably many more to come. But I can't see asking taxpayers to fix our problems, so what gives the automakers the right to ask you and me to pay to fix theirs?

Ask the unions to get them out of a situation their greed has created.

Unions (posted by BLK , Nov. 28, 2008 2:19 pm)
Were a Good thing in the 20s 30s and 40s. Now they are just Outdated. I am a Master Plumber and Sprinkler Fitter. Non Union Fitters will do more work in a day as a 3 man crew of Union Fitters and do it for 50% less at 24. an hour. Union guys make 44 to 50. 1 man working 2 men holding the ladder. They also get paid travel time. so they make $44. for driving to work. Do You get paid to drive to work??? Unions are a thing of the past. IMO

Anyone who thinks the big 3 autoworkers (posted by silverspoon , Nov. 28, 2008 1:29 pm)
make $90 an hour has a hole in their head. The average is more like $28 an hour. Add about $10 an hour for benefits and they are still under what Mandrake considers a decent wage. Honestly, Mandrake, do you know how the $70 + an hour figure that’s being spouted by union busters is derived?

"Shaky 3" assembly line workers make $90 an hour including benefits.. (posted by Mandrake , Nov. 28, 2008 9:00 am)
to install parts on an assembly line where the average training time is 5 minutes? That's almost as much money as the CEO makes..at least when the Feds take them over. The shaky 3 need to file for chapter 13 and reorganize. That sets everything back to zero and if they work smart they can build a new successful company just like Toyota has right here in the USA where they pay half the labor cost and build great cars. I'd say $45 an hour is a decent wage for the skills required.

MINDLESS UNION BASHING??? (posted by MF , Nov. 27, 2008 2:59 pm)
Walmart....is there a problem with Walmart? They attract the bottom dwellers, th un-educated, the ones who played and goofed off in school..who didn't give a crap...BUT..they have a job. Most employers would not hire them except for low paying jobs..I GUESS THIS IS WHO THE UNIONS WOULD TAKE UNDER THEIR WING AND FORCE GOOD COMPANIES TO PAY A HIGHER WAGE TO FORCING THESE COMPANIES TO RAISE THEIR PRICES. Lowes, for example, NON UNION, has made a lot of everyday people a lot of money. You are a NONUSEFULIDIOT.

there are 2 things here. 1. Union members won't drop affiliation because the union won't let them. 2. The unions aren't in it to protect union workers! Be real, the unions are in it like any other business, for profit and power! It's time to make the USA a right to work country where no one is forced to join a union. Companies that treat people well will be successful in the world market.
