President-elect Obama: Leadership already

President-elect Obama: Leadership already

While the current economic meltdown is of immediate concern to all of us, the clear and decisive leadership style of President-elect Barack Obama is a source of great reassurance to the entire nation that better days lie ahead.

For the first time in nearly a decade, the American people have an elected leader with not only an instinctive grasp of the power of the spoken word, but who also recognizes the desperate hunger in our nation to rise above petty political differences to rekindle our national sense of well-being.

Holding a news conference on each of three consecutive days during the last week of November, our incoming new chief executive has demonstrated his understanding of the country's most urgent need--to look to our economic future with optimistic anticipation, and not dread.

This is particularly important in view of the virtual disappearance of any reassuring presence by the current occupant of the White House, who now appears to be principally concerned about his administration's "legacy" in the face of the lowest approval ratings of any president in modern times.

The electoral decision we made a few short weeks ago, reinforced by the image of this young, vigorous, and self-assured leader, should give the entire country a much-needed boost of confidence in our ultimate ability to overcome the very real challenges we now face.

Yes, most of us have lost substantial net worth over the past several months, but our future is ultimately likely to be as bright as the obvious commanding presence of America's first real leader of the 21st century.

Do to the constraints of time I will only comment on your last line. If you believe putting your trust in a man, a government employee, then you are foolish. Washington DC needs to step back & let the American people do what they do best, be innovators, inventors, and problem solvers. Don't worry, the market will correct itself. It always does. I hope he is a successful president but I certainly do not think he will be the "problem solver." That is a job for the American individual.

Chicago Style leadership (posted by gciking , Dec. 11, 2008 7:40 am)
I guess since Obama is the smartest man on the planet we're just supposed to fall down on knees and worship the Messiah. The fact is, that Obama didn't get to where is is today by playing nice. He grew up in the corrupt Chicago political machine and is intimately connected with the likes of Bill Ayers, Gov Blagojevick, Tony Resco and other corrupt politicians. What kind of leadership will he provide with his tainted background? One scandal after another I'm thinking.

A positive sign of things to come (posted by GBrody , Dec. 11, 2008 6:56 am)
is that hard core liberals are PO'd at the President-Elect for his Cabinet appointments and because he's already wavering on his leftist stance on things like the Bush tax-cuts, Iraq withdrawl and windfall profit taxes on big Oil. I think Obama will be far more centrist than people expect.
