Mr. Holdorf was born in Yonkers, N.Y., Nov. 3, 1919 to Charles G. and Alice Sitterly Holdorf. His family moved upstate to Fort Hunter where Mr. Holdorf spent his childhood and youth. He enjoyed fondly reminiscing with his grandchildren about his wonderful early years and how much he enjoyed trapping, fishing, hunting, and diving off the Erie Canal locks as a youngster.
He served in the Army Air Forces in 1945 and was extremely proud of enlisting to serve his country. He became an accomplished private pilot and was an avid traveler.
He graduated from Fultonville High School. In January 1940, he married his high school sweetheart, Anna Katherine Podmajersky, whom he considered to be the smartest, most beautiful woman he had ever met. He was a 1942 graduate of the University of Minnesota.
Mr. Holdorf taught at both Fultonville High School and Cobleskill Agricultural College. He moved with his wife and two children to Spencer W.Va., where he became a salesman for school sporting equipment. In 1957 the family moved again, to Coopers-town, N.Y., and purchased BF Sisson, a prominent retail store in Oneonta.
Mr. Holdorf was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, in 1981. In 1984 he married Marian Tinelli and they resided in Cooperstown until her death in 1996.
Charles was a proud American and was active in local, state and national politics. He also was a Mason, a member of the American Legion, and attended Fredericksburg Baptist Church. This past year he made many new and dear friends at the retirement community where he resided and he was especially grateful to the kind, caring dining room servers who brightened each day.
