TROPHIES and record-setters championships and close calls medals and memorable moments.
The Fredericksburg area had a bit of all those and more in 2008.
From a half-world away, we watched Sheena Tosta--an Olympic hurdler with ties to Stafford County--hoist a silver medal in Beijing.
From half a state away, we saw coach Rich Serbay and his James Monroe Yellow Jackets celebrate the school's fourth state football championship.
And then there were the stars--Brooke Point basketball standout Chay Shegog, Duke University recruit Josh Hairston, Mountain View cross country runner Thomas Porter, and New York Mets pitcher John Maine.
It was a mixed bag of monumental success with a dash of what-could-have been.
Surely the 2008 sporting year will be remembered as one of this area's finest.

I believe the Sports Year in Review is covered in depth in the New Year's Edition.

It's like opening up a bottle of water and only a drop of water coming out. Better yet...it's like opening up a bag of potato chips and there's only one chip inside.
A little bit more in-depth reporting would have been appreciated because I think this could have been a really good article if the writer had applied himself.
