Many, many thanks: CarMax did much more than repair our car

On Jan. 15, my wife and I were traveling to Baltimore to visit our son. We planned to stop for the night in Fredericksburg.

After dinner, we discovered a mechanical problem with our car. As we later found out, the emergency brake was stuck. It was 7 p.m., and no one at the restaurant could think of any help at that hour.

I remembered seeing CarMax not far from where we ate, and we limped in there. They were closing the doors on the service bay, and I asked the mechanic if they could help.

He got his service manager, who in turn called several other auto repair shops, but all of the mechanics had gone for the night.

The service manager and mechanic said they would take a quick look and try to determine the problem. It was 20 degrees outside, and they should have been on their way home.

As we waited in the customer lounge, we wondered what our fate for the rest of our trip would be.

After 30 anxious minutes, our car was brought back, with the problem fixed. Not only was the emergency brake fixed, but they had washed the car.

To top off the whole event, they did not charge us a dime for their work. They could have "taken us to the cleaners," and we would have been grateful for the help.

There are good people in the world, and this event restored our faith in human-ity.
