Mary Lee Herrick

Mary Lee Herrick, 90, of Catlett died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at Fauquier Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Lucian and Elizabeth Jordan, and one of nine children. She was born in Upper Zion, which is now a part of Fort A.P. Hill, and she lived for a number of years in Port Royal.

After her school years, she lived in Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia. It was there that she met her husband, Russell A. "Bud" Herrick. In April 1957, they were blessed with a son, Russell A. "Rusty" Herrick Jr. After Bud's death on April 7, 1964, Mary Lee had the responsibility of raising her son as a single mother, which was one of her greatest joys.

After her retirement, she moved to Catlett to live with her son and share her life with yet another blessing, a beautiful granddaughter, Katie Lynne Herrick. Katie, too, was the joy and delight of Mary Lee's life. Upon moving to Catlett, she joined Trinity United Methodist Church, where she met many friends and became active in the various activities of the church. One of her special activities was visiting and keeping in touch with the sick and shut-in.

Throughout Mary Lee's life, she was a loyal and dedicated member of her family, always supporting and helping one and all, even at times when it wasn't the easiest thing to do. She lived a long and caring life, serving in all areas whenever and wherever needed.

The book of Ecclesiastes teaches that for everything there is a season and a time. Mary Lee's time and call has come and she had prepared herself to meet her Lord. Her advice and wish would be for all who remain to prepare themselves to be ready when they receive their call. Indeed she will be greatly missed.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bowling Green.

Friends and family will meet at 10:45 a.m. at Storke Funeral Home, 111 S. Main Street, Bowling Green, for procession to the cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Catlett.
