Public can speak on HOT lanes tomorrow
A public hearing on the proposed Interstate 95/395 high occupancy toll lanes project is scheduled for tomorrow night in Dumfries.
The public is invited to comment on the design of the northern section of the public-private project.
The northern section would convert two existing high occupancy vehicle lanes on I-95/395 into three toll lanes from Eads Street to Dumfries.
Two new toll lanes would be built from Dumfries to the Massaponax area in the southern section, which has a different design and environmental-review schedule.
Additional meetings will be held for the project's southern section.
A single toll lane to Garrisonville would be built sooner as part of the northern-section project to help with the large volume of traffic that exits there.
Vehicles with three occupants or more could use the toll lanes free, 24 hours a day. Vehicles with one or two occupants could use the lanes if they pay a toll with a transponder device, similar to an E-ZPass.
Tolls would adjust based on the volume of traffic.
Project officials will share materials from 5 to 9 p.m. A short presentation will be given at 7 p.m., followed by time for public comment.
The meeting will be held at Potomac High School, 3401 Panther Drive, Dumfries.

that is "cast in stone." HOT lanes were conceived behind closed doors without any referendun from the electorate. The HOT lanes are a "cool" way to tax the citizens without passing a tax increase through the legislative process. The whole thing is a sham. Vote for no incumbents in the future.
Right now taxpayers who paid to build the HOV can use the HOV during non-rush hours. 3 people per car is limited to rush hours. That changes. Now you will have to pay to use the HOV during non-rush hours. Pay a lot. So Fredericksburg, unless you are willing to cough up the $50 to use the HOV get ready to spend forever on I-95 mainline. Thanks government for selling our road that we paid for to a company that is going to make us pay to use it..
