Murray A. Bowie

Mr. Murray A. Bowie Jr. died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Lynchburg General Hospital.

A member of Fredericksburg Baptist Church, he was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired from the commissary at Fort Belvoir and worked for many years at the commissary at Quantico.

Mr. Bowie is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Kuhnley of Lynchburg; two sons, Parker Bowie and his wife, Karen, of Upperville, and Andy Bowie of Marshall; a sister-in-law, Shirley Bowie of Fredericksburg; two nieces, Robin Brown and her husband, Roger, of Fredericksburg, and Amy Griggs and her husband, David, also of Fredericksburg; five grandchildren, Lisa Kuhnley, Sheila Layne, Joshua Bowie, Sara Lane and Wendy Bowie; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Kuhnley, Alyssa Lane and Ryan Lane; four grand-nephews, Tyler Brown, Adam Brown, Justin Griggs and Jordan Griggs; and a grand-niece, Emily Griggs.

His remains rest at the Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, where a funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, with Pastor Larry Haun officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Fredericksburg Baptist Church, 1019 Princess Anne St. Fredericksburg, Va. 22401, or to Bedford Hospice House, Box 985, Bedford, Va. 24523.
