Pope's drama coming to Holy Cross in April
A play by Pope John Paul II about the trials and tribulations of love will be performed at Holy Cross Academy in southern Stafford County on April 4 at 3 p.m.
"The Jeweler's Shop" explores the lofty and sometimes rocky relationships of three couples during courtship and marriage.
Written by the future pope when he was bishop of Krakow, "The Jeweler's Shop" has received widespread praise. Drama critics have called the play surprisingly secular.
Noted Washington director George Grant directs the three-act drama, which has toured with two off-Broadway companies as well as at churches in New York City and the Hudson Valley.
The local performance is sponsored by St. Mary Council of Catholic Women, which provides special events and service to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception parish in Fredericksburg.
Holy Cross Academy is located at 250 Stafford Lakes Parkway off U.S. 17.
Advance tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students; at the door, tickets are $17 for adults and $12 for seniors and students. Family tickets are $48. For reservations call 540/371-8661 or 786-9324, or e-mail kee Email: tonfam@cox.net or dhs321 @comcast.net.
