Brown helps Hornets finish with perfect mark

Orange pitcher D.J. Brown had a no-hitter through five innings, striking out 10 Western Albemarle batters to cap the Hornets' regular season with a 4-3 win.

Chris Bittner and Nick Bledsoe both went 2-for-3 and Brown helped his cause by scoring a run as Orange (20-0, 12-0) completed regular-season play without a loss. The Hornets will be the top seed in the Jefferson District tournament, which opens Tuesday.

Johnny Collins had a home run and struck out eight while earning the pitching win for the Conquerors last night in the ODAC state tournament quarterfinals.

Faith Baptist plays Leesburg Christian on Friday at Heritage Christian School in Woodbridge, with a tournament finals berth at stake.

Brandon Scott had two doubles and three RBIs and Brandon Mack was 2-for-3 with a run driven in for the Cyclones to hand Spotsylvania its first Battlefield District loss.

Allen Beall went 3-for-4 for Eastern View (14-4, 9-2), which plays at Courtland tonight.

Kevin Seay was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for the Knights (16-2, 11-1), who host a district semifinal next Tuesday.

Kyle Haynes struck out 10 Patriots, and helped his own cause with a 3-for-4 effort that included a double and a home run, and two RBIs.

Nick Kime was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, Austin White was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Jacob Lopez slugged a two run homer for the Wildcats.

Mountain View (11-8, 9-3) hosts North Stafford tonight in its regular-season finale.
