Recommendations for funding VDOT cuts are presented to the Commonwealth Transportation Board.

VDOT spokesman Jeff Caldwell said one proposal was to close 25 interstate rest areas around Virginia, but after hearing from the public, 6 of them will stay open. "We are now proposing to retain 4 of our rest areas along the I-81 corridor, to serve all drivers. And 2 truck only rest areas up in Dale City.” Caldwell said.

All of the proposals will be voted on by the Commonwealth Transportation Board next month as part of the department's overall budget.
