Charter member of Troop 1717 earns Eagle rank

Nathan Crisler earned his Eagle Scout rank at a Court of Honor March 28 at Calvary Chapel of Fredericksburg. Nathan is a charter member of Troop 1717, chartered by Hartwood Presbyterian Church. Nathan received a Virginia flag flown over the Capitol in Richmond, courtesy of House Speaker Bill Howell.

Nathan earned 33 merit badges and has held a variety of leadership positions in the troop, including senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, troop guide and den chief for Pack 578.

For his Eagle community service project, Nathan constructed boxes for school supplies for a Rocky Run Elementary School class.

Highlights of Nathan's Scouting experiences include participating in the 2005 National Jamboree, camping in Redwood National Forest and his time at Camp Olmstead in Goshen, participating in the high-adventure program and completing the Boy Scouts of America scuba and kayaking training.

He is a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow and received his open-water scuba certification in 2007. Nathan had more than 106 nights of camping and hiked more than 136 miles as part of his effort toward earning his Eagle rank.

Nathan is a 16 year-old junior at Colonial Forge High School. His activities at school include lettering in varsity cross country, receiving the President's Award for Educational Achievement, National Junior Honor Society, and an AutoCAD industry certification last year.

Nathan plans to go to college to work toward an engineering degree, then join the Marine Corps as a pilot or an engineer.
