Characters from 'Harry Potter' to 'The Lion King' will be onstage Saturday at Masssaponax High School, in the Fredericksburg Ballet Centre's annual Spring Show. |
Dancing wizards, musical lions and hairspray-loving 1950s-style teenie boppers will share the stage this weekend.
The Fredericksburg Ballet Centre will host its 12th annual Spring Show recital on Saturday and Sunday.
The performance is designed to showcase the talents of the center's students from the past year.
"Here is where the Fredericksburg Ballet Centre dancers get to shine," said Jennifer Cleaton, owner of the center. "This show has everything from ballet to musical theater. Young tappers, energetic jazz dancers and graduating seniors all get in the mix."
This year's ballet theme is "At the Library."
"Every teacher chose a book to bring to life," Cleaton said.
Characters from Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women," Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass" and J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" will be among the literary figures jumping from the pages and onto the stage.
The Jazz, Tap and Musical Theater theme is "On Broadway." Songs from past Broadway hits "Cats," "Hair," "Footloose" and "The Lion King" will be performed.
"There will be no surprises this year--just fun," Cleaton said.
