The town of Culpeper's ongoing celebration of its 250th anniversary will get a boost today from some 2,000 bicyclists riding across central Virginia.

The town, Culpeper Renaissance and the Culpeper County Chamber of Commerce will host a block party from 5 to 9 p.m. to welcome Bike Virginia tour riders.

"Culpeper's business and tourism organizations are rolling out the red carpet for residents and Bike Virginia cyclists as well," said Tourism Director Beth Burns.

Bike Virginia is a five-day historical bicycling experience presented by BikeWalk Virginia, an organization that promotes bicycle safety through classes, events and literature.

The bicyclists pedaled from Charlottesville to Culpeper yesterday, traveling a portion of the Journey Through Hallowed Ground corridor.

They will camp at Eastern View High School for a second night tonight before heading off to Orange.

The town of Orange plans its own celebration to greet the riders tomorrow night. Starting at 5 p.m. downtown, the event will include food, drink and entertainment for children and adults.
